When uploading files using IE not all folders/files are visible

Today I came across a problem when trying to upload files to a website using Internet Explorer 11. We need to use IE for a legacy program but when trying to upload files and selecting browse and navigating folders not all folders are visible.
When checking File Explorer all folders are visible(not hidden). Using other browsers work as expected but due to constraints of our legacy program we needed to use IE.
The steps below resolved the issue.

Instructions

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click on the Tools Menu (if the tools menu is not visible press the Alt key)
  • Click on Internet Options
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Select Internet Zone
  • Untick Enabled Protected Mode
  • Click Ok
  • Restart Internet Explorer and the missing files should now be visible
  • Repeat the above steps but this time tick Enabled Protected Mode and click ok
  • Restart Internet Explorer and the missing files should still be visible with Protected Mode still enabled

If the files still aren’t visible follow the steps below

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click on the Tools Menu (if the tools menu is not visible press the Alt key)
  • Click on Internet Options
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Select Trusted Sites Zone
  • Click on the Sites button
  • Enter the URL of the site that you are attempting to upload files from and click Add
  • Click Ok
  • Click Close and files should now be visible
